Core Conversation: Not Married - The Pursuit of Joy in Singleness and Dating | 11.03.17 - 12.15.17

December 15th, 2017

Join us for 5 Friday nights as we discuss some of the specific challenges, biases, and misconceptions about what it means to be Christian and not married.

During our time together we will be asking questions such as:

"Does God want me to be married?"

"Do I have to be married to mature as a Christian?"

"What purpose does God have for my life when I am not married?"

"What is a good and wise way to date?"

"Does God want me to marry?"

The answers to these questions may surprise you!

  • When: We will meet together on five Friday nights: 11/3, 11/10, 12/1, 12/8, and 12/15 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
  • Where: We will meet at Portico Church's office (3240 Wilson Blvd. #200 Arlington, VA 22201)
  • Who: Anyone who is not married!
  • Why: To seek God's wisdom in our present situation
  • What: We will read "Not Yet Married: The Pursuit of Joy in Singleness and Dating" by Marshall Segal and have teaching from Pastor of Spiritual Formation Nate Wagner and April Fry

Core Conversations are teaching sessions designed to engage, equip, and challenge us on issues of faith in a relaxed, interactive environment.

FOUNDATIONS | 01.19.18 & 01.20.18

January 19th - January 20th, 2018

About:

FOUNDATIONS is an introduction to the community, theology, and values of Portico Church Arlington. It’s a snapshot of what it means to be a member on mission with us. If you are new, FOUNDATIONS is a great place to connect with others.

Details:

How it works…FOUNDATIONS will take place over two days, beginning with a Friday evening session over dinner from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The evening will be an opportunity to engage with others over good food and hear from our leaders about the vision, values, and mission of our church.

The Saturday session will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Portico Church Office in Clarendon (3240 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 200, Arlington, VA, 22201). The pastors and leaders of Portico will teach on how we live out the three identities we embody as disciples of Jesus: Worshippers, Family, and Missionaries. Attending both sessions serves as our pathway to membership. The Saturday session will include:

  • belonging to God: theology, beliefs and overview of the Gospel
  • belonging to each other: membership, community, service, and gifts
  • belonging on mission: local and global outreach

There will also be plenty of time for discussion. For the Saturday session, a cost of $10 (per person) is required for materials.

If you would like to attend the Friday session or both, please sign up here. Space is limited so register soon!

January 21st - March 25th, 2018

Join us for a 9 week class that will explore how the Gospel forms us as parents.

During our 9 weeks together, we will look at 14 Gospel principles that will help to give us a "big view" of what parents are called to as they disciple their children.

This class will be hosted by the Sunday morning community group, led by Geoff and Danielle Peck, and childcare will be provided by Portico Kids.

Several wise and experienced parents will lead the teaching and discussion during our time together, and we will also go through the book "Parenting" by Paul David Tripp.

The Class will meet on Sunday mornings from January 21 through March 25, 2017, before church in classroom 105 at H-B Woodlawn from 9:00 am - 10:00 am.

All parents, or those who desire to be parents are welcome to register here and attend!

ALL Leader Training | 02.03.18

February 3rd, 2018

God has given everyone a unique opportunity to lead in some capacity. Whether you are leading yourself, a small group, or an entire organization, God has placed a call on your life to lead with excellence and joy!

We want to see this excitement for leadership and service at Portico! This is why we host our All Leader Training, a twice a year event focused on training, equipping, and encouraging leaders of all kinds in our church and community.

The All Leader Training will be on Saturday, February 3, and will be held at Cherrydale Baptist Church (3910 Lorcom Ln, Arlington, VA 22207). This event is mandatory for all current Portico leaders (elders, deacons, CG leaders, DG leaders, team lead). This training is also for those interested in leading at Portico and want to get more information as to what that looks like. We encourage all to make plans to join us for a day of training, eating, celebration, and fun!

Bring the entire family. We have an environment scheduled and staffed for onsite childcare during the training times (9 am - 12 pm).

The main training sessions will be held between 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and lunch will be provided from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.

Please register to this event and let us know if you will be bringing any little ones.

Looking forward to a great day with you!
